The aim of this course is to give the basic knowledge
and skills necessary to use the personal computer autonomously and knowingly, in the
perspective of using the information support to participate actively in the communication
and information society.
The course is divided into three modules; the first module introduces the principal
hardware components of a personal computer, the classification of the software and the
technology for using a computer for communication, with particular reference to the
Internet.
The second module describes in detail how to use a computer with the operative system
Windows 98 (with references to the 95 version too).
The third module presents a particular and widespread applicative programme; the word
processor is Microsoft Word. Each module is composed of two parts: the didactic units and
a final test to check the competency acquired.
Each didactic unit is organized with a first page in which there is a list of the most
important technical words, that are introduced, and the minimum competency that can be
acquired; moreover, from this page, it is possible to begin the surfing in the didactic
unit.
Finally, though presenting specific information programmes and relating technology, we
have described the characteristics that are common to all the information instruments for
personal computers more widespread nowadays in order to give competency that is not
closely connected to the products actually considered as a reference point.
