The
present hypertext, the final result of the Leonardo project, was developed with
technical characteristics that allow its use both through the Internet and with
a local CD.
This
choice has strongly characterized the structure and the graphics of the
hypertext, sometimes limiting its visual “beauty”, but there has certainly
been an enormous advantage that justifies this lack fully: this work is
available to anyone who has access to the internet and is interested in it. The internet is by now so deep-rooted and
economically advantageous, that it does not find obstacles to its expansion.
Therefore we are convinced that the best way to make this project accessible to
the widest number of people is by the use of the globally recognized Web format
Of
course, the hypertext
will also be available on CD, to be used on a local computer without telephone
connections and accesses to the internet, but the structure and the realization
are exactly the same as the ones used for the internet version (obviously the
time for the visualization of the pages and for the answer is inferior). Thanks to the homogeneous format, the user can
pass from one condition of use to the other ( that is, from a local CD to the
internet and vice versa) and there is no need of learning new commands and
recognizing new graphic symbols, since the two versions are exactly the same:
they have the same hypertextual structure, the same graphic display, the same
tokens, the same types of check, etc.
It is useless to say that
the style used is that of the hypertext in the HTML format, displayed by the
same program of navigation through the internet.

We can now see more in detail what we need to
use this project:
 |
a computer ( not outdated) with a CD rom reader
or connected to the internet, |
 |
a colour video (800x600) |
 |
an audio card and acoustic cases to listen to
the vocal recordings |
 |
a recent Browser (such as Microsoft Internet
Explorer or Natscape Navigator), that is a program that can show correctly
the content of the pages stored in the HTML
format |
 |
a printer that can be used to print the lessons.
|

To view the principal page of the hypertext you
need:
 |
For the version on local
CD:
 |
insert the CD in the
appropriate reader and wait
 |
if after a few seconds the page with the heading
Leonardo project does not appear, press the key START
and then choose RUN |
 |
in the square called OPEN type in D:\
index.htm (where D is the letter
that identifies the CD reader) and press the key ENTER
|
|
|
 |
For the version on the
internet
 |
introduce the program Browser (such as Microsoft
Internet Explorer or Natscape Navigator) |
 |
in the square called Address type in:
http://www.itcgfermi.it/leonardo
press the key ENTER and wait (this address
can be saved, so you do not have to write it again but only to call it
back directly from the Browser)

From the principal page it is possible to gain
access to the various subjects through the connection to SUBJECTS dealt with.
In each page there are shift buttons using which it is possible to move from one
topic to another; it is possible to move within the pages of the hypertext also
in the text or through some pictures.
In general we can say that contain hypertextual connections to other pages have
the following characteristics:
 | the text is underlined and of a different
colour |
 | the picture changes colour as the mouse
moves |
 | the cursor changes form as the mouse moves |

To help the
user, the same format and the same
graphic signs have been used in the whole hypertext:
the background of the pages, the shift switches,
the characters, the icons, etc.
In particular, the most important icons (and
their meanings) are:
Navigation buttons:

| Module |
Didactic Unit |
Questionnaire |
List of the
subjects |
The heading of all the pages will
contain:
 | in the centre:
the topic dealt with in the page |
 | on the left: the official logo and the
inscription of the Leonardo project |
 | on the right: the logo and the name of the
agency that has created the page |
